MACVIN DU JURA

Rouge

Home / Our Wines / MACVIN DU JURA

Grape Varieties

Macvin du Jura is a Jura tradition, made exclusively from grape must and Franche-Comté marc brandy. It is made from the juice of the red grape varieties of the Jura and more particularly, for the blend of Macvin Rouge, from the Pinot Noir grape variety.

Tasting notes

Purple in colour. Very fine and aromatic with hints of red fruit (blackcurrant, raspberry), violets and white pepper, with hints of fig or prune adding to its originality. A very harmonious whole. Well-balanced and fruity on the palate, with a lovely sweetness to support the long-lasting aromas.

Food and wine paring

This wine is sublime as an aperitif with melon, prunes dressed in smoked bacon or foie gras. It is also a perfect companion for fruit tarts or chocolate desserts.

Serving suggestions

Serve chilled between 8 and 10°C (aperitif or melon), between 14 and 16°C (foie gras or desserts) and at room temperature as a digestive.

Ageing potential

Ready to drink. May be kept for up to twenty years.

Appellation

Small in size, but large in its exceptional diversity, the Jura vineyards stretch over 80 kilometres between Burgundy and Switzerland, on the eastern border of France.

Winemaking

Our red Macvin du Jura is made from Jura Pinot Noir must (obtained by maceration over a few hours), blended with eau de vie of the same origin (aged in oak barrels for at least 18 months), with 2/3 unfermented grape juice and 1/3 Jura marc. It is aged for 12 months in oak barrels.
